The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell of Jeppiaar University is established to coordinate and support activities related to the identification, protection, management, and use of intellectual property generated within the University. The Cell works with faculty members, researchers, students, staff, innovators, startups, and collaborators involved in academic, research, consultancy, creative, and entrepreneurial activities.

The IPR Cell creates awareness about intellectual property rights and provides guidance on the protection of patents, copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs, and other forms of intellectual property. It assists members of the University in identifying potentially protectable intellectual property, understanding the procedures involved, and initiating appropriate registration and protection processes.

The Cell also maintains records of intellectual property generated by the University and coordinates matters relating to ownership, disclosure, patent and copyright filing, licensing, technology transfer, commercialization, and benefit sharing, as applicable under the University’s Intellectual Property Policy. It works to ensure that the rights of inventors and creators are recognized while protecting the interests of the University and its research and industry partners.

An important function of the IPR Cell is to support the movement of research and innovation beyond the University through industry collaboration, technology transfer, licensing, and commercialization. The Cell also provides support for intellectual property arising from student projects, faculty research, consultancy activities, innovation initiatives, and startup-related activities.

The IPR Cell promotes responsible use of intellectual property and creates awareness regarding plagiarism, copyright infringement, unauthorized use of protected works, confidentiality, and other legal and ethical aspects of intellectual property. It also assists in addressing intellectual property-related matters that may arise in collaborative research, sponsored projects, consultancy, and institutional partnerships.

Through these activities, the IPR Cell supports the University’s academic and research community in protecting their intellectual contributions and in exploring appropriate opportunities for their further development and application.
