Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)

Jeppiaar University is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, respectful, and gender-sensitive academic and professional environment for all members of the University community. Sexual harassment is a violation of the fundamental rights to equality, dignity, and a safe working and learning environment.

The University follows a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment and has constituted an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to ensure the effective prevention, prohibition, and redressal of complaints relating to sexual harassment, in accordance with applicable laws, UGC regulations, and statutory provisions.

Objectives

The Internal Complaints Committee shall strive to:

  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and harassment-free academic and professional environment.
  • Prevent and prohibit all forms of sexual harassment within the University campus and during any University-related activities, events, programmes, or official engagements.
  • Provide a confidential, impartial, fair, and accessible mechanism for the submission and redressal of complaints.
  • Promote awareness of gender equality, dignity, mutual respect, and appropriate workplace and campus conduct among all stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular gender-sensitization and awareness initiatives to prevent discrimination, harassment, and gender-based bias.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable UGC regulations, statutory requirements, and institutional policies relating to the prevention and redressal of sexual harassment.

Responsibilities of the Committee Members

The members of the Internal Complaints Committee shall:

  • Take proactive measures to promote dignity, equality, safety, and respect for women and all members of the University community.
  • Organize awareness and gender-sensitization programmes through seminars, workshops, events, orientation programmes, institutional announcements, forums, posters, and other appropriate communication channels.
  • Receive, examine, and address complaints relating to sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination with the highest standards of integrity, impartiality, confidentiality, and sensitivity.
  • Ensure that complaints are handled in accordance with established procedures and within the prescribed timelines.
  • Conduct inquiries into complaints of sexual harassment in a fair, impartial, and confidential manner, while safeguarding the dignity and rights of all parties concerned.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and records of complaints, inquiries, proceedings, and outcomes in accordance with applicable requirements relating to confidentiality and data protection.
  • Provide suggestions, inputs, and recommendations to the University Management and Administrative Authorities for the formulation, review, and strengthening of policies, procedures, rules, and regulations concerning sexual harassment and gender-related matters.
  • Recommend appropriate disciplinary or corrective measures to the competent authority where an inquiry establishes a violation, in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and University policies.
  • Undertake any other measures necessary for the effective prevention and redressal of sexual harassment and for promoting a safe, equitable, and respectful environment within the University.
