Dr. R. Baskaran, the present Vice Chancellor of Jeppiaar University, is an academician with in-depth knowledge and has about three decades of experience, including more than 18 years as a professor and administrator in various capacities. Before assuming his current position, he served as Dean of Research at an Anna University-affiliated engineering college in Chennai. He earned his B.E degree in S.I.T, Tumkur, during the early nineties. He had done his M.S. (by Research) degree and Ph.D in Alagappa Chettiar College of Technology (A.C.Tech), Anna University, Chennai-25, Tamil Nadu. In addition to degrees in the engineering stream, he had also completed an additional UG degree in the science stream. The Institution of Engineers India granted him the status of Chartered Engineer as a recognition of his qualification and professional attainment on a global platform.
He has published over 120 papers in reputed peer-reviewed journals and proceedings. His publications are indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, which have earned more citations. He had published many Indian patents, and one of his German patents has been granted. He has authored 10-plus book chapters and books to his credit. He has a profound research interest and has guided doctoral candidates as a supervisor at different universities, including Anna University. He is a reviewer of many Environmental and Chemical Engineering Journals. His research papers and presentations have fetched Best Paper Awards and also received the Gouri Dutta award in CHEMCON 2007, Calcutta. He has bagged the Best Teacher award four times, given by JET and various awards by International Publication House, IIFS, etc. He has been invited as a speaker in several prestigious government engineering colleges like GEC, Calicut, and various ATAL FDPs. He has also presented a lecture at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Salalah, Oman, titled Lucrative and Evergreen Engineering in 2021. He has received about 50 lakhs for research and academic funding from AICTE, DST, CSIR, Anna University, NSDC…for executing funded projects and organizing Faculty Development programme, including workshops.
Dr.Baskaran R is a life member of the Institution of Engineers (IEngg), Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE), Asia Pacific Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering Society (APCBEES), Hong Kong, International Association of Engineers (IAEng), and an annual member of IEEE. Owing to his skill sets in education and administration, He has been nominated as a Board of Studies member at Anna University between 2013 and 2022. He acted as a member of various committees, including the Expert Committee, Doctoral Committee, Selection Committee, disciplinary committee, research committee, and Academic Council. He had vast experience as a coordinator in handling many cycles of NAAC, NIRF, and NBA during his previous tenure. He also played a pivotal role in facilitating MOUs with international universities to promote global understanding. He has visited many countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, and Belgium, gaining insights into International higher education standards.
